These medians are inaccessible and unwelcoming. This could be extra sidewalk space instead.

Bench Needed

We want big sidewalks with trees and seating. Places where people can relax. The medians are inaccessible and uninviting. Raised medians would be no better. Remove the medians, expand the sidewalks, add curbside bike lanes protected by a raised curb, cut the number of general traffic lanes and add center running bus lanes.

Add Bus Service
01/12/2018 - 12:26
Map Comment
Consider adding center running bus lanes to the Grand Concourse. Eliminate the service roads and medians, allow for only two general traffic lanes and curb side bike lanes on expanded sidewalks. Center running bus lanes will not get stuck behind turning or double parked cars. Most people who live on or near the GC do not drive, and most business serve the population within walking distance. In the future, perhaps the bus only lanes could become part of a streetcar route, with grass alongside the tracks.

Neighborhood Hangout

The sidewalks are vibrant with street life, but could be better. Expand the sidewalks throughout the Grand Concourse, allowing additional space for seating, beautification and recreation. No one hangs out on the inaccessible medians, they are just necessary safe havens when crossing the street. Reduce the street width (remove lanes), expand the sidewalks, and place "people space" near the places people want to be, like the buildings themselves.

Uncomfortable for Novice Cyclists
01/12/2018 - 12:18
Map Comment
In areas like this, a mountable curbside bicycle lane will be routinely encroached by drivers traveling around double parked vehicles. Installing flex posts would be a better solution for bicyclists. In order to reduce double parking, we need more loading zones and additional/higher cost metered parking.

Does the Grand Concourse need so many automotive lanes? The Major Deegan is just west and we should not encourage drivers to utilize this street unnecessarily. With less automotive lanes, we could expand "people space" for residents, visitors and local businesses.

Vehicles Parking in Bike Lane
11/02/2017 - 16:52
Map Comment
The bike lanes are always blocked due to lack of loading zones for residents/shop owners. There should be dedicated loading areas to clear the way for bikes and allow residents/neighbors a legal place to load/unload.

Bike Lane Requested

The entire length of Grand Concourse needs a protected bike path similar to what Queens Blvd has. These are nearly identical roads and cyclists on the Concourse shouldn't be treated as second class citizens because they don't drive a car. Physically protected bike lanes on the median side with stop controlled slip lanes are 100% necessary.

This could be a great pedestrian plaza. Might as well expand the pedestrian space as much as possible, add seating and trees for shade.

Vehicles Parking in Bike Lane

Protected bike lane is a must on the entire Grand Concourse. Cars used bike lane to double park or for passing slow vehicles/buses. Physical protection is a must due to vehicles using buffered space next to median as parking, specially on Sundays with churches in or near the avenue.
